Facial Pain Chiropractor In Marietta East Cobb GA
Facial Pain/Trigeminal Neuralgia aka "Suicide Disease"
Dr. Milan Modi, an Upper Cervical and Structural Rehabilitation Chiropractor, uses a highly-specific technique to help people suffering from facial pain - sometimes known as Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN). TN is a horrific disorder of one or more of the cranial nerves that have been affected due to some form of trauma or accident. In our office, we have often found out through an investigative form of patient history taking that the Upper Cervical (Neck) spine has been disrupted. When the upper neck subluxates or misaligns, this can cause improper signals going to and from the Trigeminal Nerve.
How Is Trigeminal Neuralgia Diagnosed
Trigeminal Neuralgia will be diagnosed by your Neurologist Medical Doctor. There are few criteria's they usually follow to officially diagnose a person. However, because there are different variations of TN, it may become difficult to confirm the diagnosis.
Diagnostic Criteria (as per IHS Classification ICHD-3):
- Pain lasting from a second to 2 minutes
- Pain is severe
- Pain is electric, shock-like; sharp and stabbing
- Localized to one region of the face
- Travels to different parts of the face (forehead, cheek, jaw)
What To Do About Trigeminal Neuralgia
It is very important you first see your Medical Doctor to confirm the diagnosis and establish a baseline. At this point, they may either prescribe you medication and/or give you alternatives for care.
Second, it is important you visit an Upper Cervical Chiropractor such as our office to correct a potential upper neck misalignment. An Atlas-Axis (C1, C2) misalignment can cause many disorders and diseases including: facial pain, neck pain, migraine headache, and more. An upper neck misalignment also creates abnormal amounts of pressure that may reduce blood and CSF flow (confirmed via fMRI) going to and from the brain.
